Head's Iron Foundry
Manufacturers of furnaces, Wagon Hardware, Soil Pipes, etc., Utica, N.Y.

The establishment known as Head's Iron Foundry, in the line of the production of manufactures of iron, occupies a prominent position in this industrial community.

The firm as at present constituted, was established in 1885, but it was instituted about twenty-five years ago by Chapman & Co. Subsequent changes of style transpired and in 1874 it became known as LeRoy, Shattuck & Head, and so continued until the adoption of its present title. The premises occupied are contained upon a plot of land 300 x 150 feet in magnitude. Upon this are erected a four-story machine shop 30 x 125 feet in dimensions, a foundry 40 x 150 feet, storehouses, sheds, barns, etc. The mechanical equipment of the works enbraces a sixty-horse power engine, and all the best of appliances and tools, and the policy of the house is to adopt every improvement that gives promise of perfecting the product. The products embrace fine machinery castings of every description, wagon skems, soil pipe and fittings, agricultural tools, wagon builders' hardware, etc., as well as high grade hot air furnaces.

A force of fifty skilled workmen are employed, and the trade of the house extends all over the United States. The house may be quoted as the most important of the kind in Central New York, and its reputation is well attested by the character and scope of its trade, which is annually increasing. The gentlemen comprising the proprietors of these works are Messrs. George W. Head, Charles J. Manning and F. T. Giblin. In the ramifications of their business, they have borne an important part in extending the reputation of Utica as a producing center as well as in fostering the material prosperity of the city.

Head's Iron Foundry was one of many Utica-based Furnace & Boiler Companies. Utica's history of boiler and furnace manufacturing offers a great opportunity for a Better Wynn Hospital Neighborhood.
