May 1, 2018 - In case you missed it [View Facebook post] the Great #NoHospitalDowntown Orator Paul W. Kohan...
April 12, 2017 - A downtown Utica hospital? New Hartford native Paul William Kohan, son of a doctor, says not so fast! Recently returning from his position with a Boston law firm, Paul seeks to resettle in the Utica-area. He has followed the hospital story, and says the top-down planning of the hospital is all wrong. A hospital will not attract downtown dwellers, historic property holds value, and more small developments are needed to keep downtown Utica moving ahead.
Paul William Kohan... says not so fast!Utica's early prosperity was fueled by canals and industrial manufacturing. Downtown's Columbia-Lafayette Neighborhood was a hot bed of early furnace and boiler manufacturing, as homes and businesses were adopting different indoor heating moving from, wood, coal, and then gas. By 1900, the neighborhood's The International Heating Company, claimed- "Largest Maker of Heaters in the World." We're developing the story of over twenty Furnace & Boiler Makers, and their Founders & Inventors and plan to one day offer a museum with exhibits and much more. In the meantime, please consider Fires, Furnaces & Forges to understand how the indoor heating industry developed.
Better Utica Downtown seeks to help create a Better Hospital Neighborhood.
