Oriskany Street
Columbia Lafayette Neighborhood
Utica, NY

This is CoLa's northern boarder, running a length of 1,707 feet (520 meters), from the North-South Arterial to Washington Street. In much earlier days, Oriskany Street's southern lanes were the path of the famed Erie Canal.

Oriskany Street, also called state route 5S, is undergoing an upgrade in Downtown Utica. Visit the NYS Route 5 Upgrade Project website.

Back in the day, the northern bank of the Erie Canal was the "towpath" and canal-era buildings abutted the canal's southern bank. State and Cornelia Streets were "dead ended" at the canal, while Broadway and Washington had bridges over the canal linking to the towpath and Liberty Street at the north. At a later date State Street bent eastward before reaching the canal, Rome Street and Carton Avenue looped and reconnected to Lafayette Street.

On Oriskany Street in CoLa are; Utica City Courts, the Police Station, Enterprise Car Rental, Eggers, Caryl & Corricgan, Rockford Auto Glass, amoung others. Oriskany is Utica's so-called "East-West Arterial" and some refer to it as Oriskany Boulevard.

We're not opposed to a new hospital, just do not bulldoze Downtown Utica's Historic Columbia-Lafayette Neighborhood... "Build It At St. Luke's!"
